FACT: In Florida during the FY 2008 - 09, a total of 88,139 married couples filed for divorce, with 82,597 of them being complex, and 5,542 being simplified divorce. View the official statistics Click here.

As Governor, Darrin is determined to reduce the number of divorce filings in Florida by more than 50 percent.

Those who intentionally sabotage or destroy an intact family unit should be held accountable under new laws.

A spouse who proves in Court that the divorce is based on fault grounds, such as adultery, physical cruelty, mental cruelty, habitual drunkenness and desertion, shall be awarded 100 percent of the marital assets.

All prenuptial agreements shall be null and void if divorce is based on fault grounds.

A spouse shall have the right to seek injunctive relief (a court order) to prevent a mistress from contact with the other spouse, even over the objections of the offending spouse.

A spouse shall have the right to seek actual and punitive damages from a mistress who has an intimate relationship with the other spouse.

As Governor, Darrin is committed to -

  • Promote strong opposition to adultery.

  • Support parental involvement in the education of there children.

  • Support policies that encourage adoption over abortion, while at the same time observing a woman's right to choose.

  • Support abstinence education.

  • Support policies to protect children from obscenity and exploitation.

At the 2004 Democratic National Convention, John Kerry said "it is time for those who talk about family values to start valuing families."

A McGillis administration will support -

  • A decent living wage.

  • Universal health care.

  • The acceptance of same-sex adoption.

  • The acceptance of single parent households and same-sex marriages.

- Sexually transmitted disease among the young population is out of control -

We must advocate (to young couples) that marriage is the route, which in turn will help reduce the number of sexually transmitted diseases. A married couple is less likely to cheat on a spouse versus a girlfriend or boyfriend.

It does not matter if you are heterosexual, or homosexual, a bond by marriage is stronger and will reduce the rate of multiple sexual partners, that in turn will reduce the number of sexually transmitted diseases.

Support the equal rights of all persons to get married in Florida
